On 18-19 November, the sixth UK Onion & Carrot Conference & Exhibition will be held at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, UK.
Key speakers at the Carrot Conference include Soil Association director Patrick Holden and Sarah Pettitt, chair of the Horticulture Board of the NFU.
“We are all in this together,” said Mr Holden, “it’s not a case of organic vs ICM `integrated crop management` – we all face the same challenges of climate change, fossil energy depletion and product wastage through overbearing retailer specifications and the need to ensure that local sourcing is not merely tokenism. We have a massive job in front of us to find solutions to crop production, marketing and economic issues.”
Ms Pettitt commented: “Our industry provides one of life’s essentials, just as important as the air we breathe – with the right vision our industry will remain world class leaders and deliver the new increased domestic production agenda.”
The programme also includes a visit to Premier Foods to view the processing operations and a visit to the Rustler Produce onion packhouse.
