Netto store

New reports have suggested that Dansk Supermarked-owned retail chain Netto is planning for expansion in Germany and Poland in the coming years.

According to German weekly food sector publication Lebensmittel Zeitung, the group is planning to launch 20-25 stores per year with the money raised from the sale of its UK outlets to Walmart-owned Asda earlier in the year.

The €620m deal was an offer that Netto 'could not refuse', managing director of Netto International Claus Juel-Jensen told the publication, with high property prices and acquisition problems meaning the group so no future in the UK.

After also withdrawing from Ukraine in 2009, the group now wants to expand rapidly in its remaining markets, with a particular focus on Germany and Poland.
