Top-selling national tabloid The Sun has joined forces with the Banana Group as the official media partner for The Fit Banana Best of British Awards for Great Sporting Achievements. The first feature appeared on July 8, an article on the Scotsman Simon Pride, the ultradistance runner, who is world champion over 100km, a feat he achieved without media coverage or significant sponsorship. Andy Dillon from Sunsport said the paper was delighted to join the campaign. "It is a brilliant idea," he said. "We know hundreds of British champions that get little or no support." Nomination forms have been sent to every sports association and sporting magazine and newspaper in the country to try to find more unsung heroes. "The whole campaign provides us with the perfect opportunity to promote the energy-giving profile of our fruit while rewarding the very sports men and women who have done so much to put bananas in the news," said Roger Hilborne, director of the Banana Group.
