Branston has been working with Tesco to to showcase Cornish potatoes - which feature soft, pale skin and a sweet, creamy texture - in the retailer's stores across Cornwall and the south west since the start of the season in June.

Demand for the product also saw expansion up through the west of the country as availability increased through the season, the company said.

James Truscott, sales and marketing director, explained: 'The Cornish season is always popular among consumers, and the pleasant summer weather weʼve been enjoying has encouraged more sales as people make the most of the best of the seasonʼs produce.

'Weʼre thrilled with the sales performance and continued success of our Cornish new potatoes. Tesco has once again got behind the products and supported them with the inclusion of unique off-fixture display areas and promotions in store.'

This year's bumper crop also saw an extension for the season, adding acouple of extra weeks which has seen supply in Tesco stores until mid August.
