Salad specialist Stubbins has put public engagement at the heart of its growth, interacting with consumers and building its brand nationally.

In June it kicked off its 50 Years of Excellence celebration as an official partner of Taste of London, as well as creating a 50th anniversary film.

Investment in both facilities and NPD has been a key strand of the company’s approach. Its Cambridge nursery has been granted Demonstration Farm status as a leading producer of UK tomatoes, and its packing facility has been upgraded to streamline production and boost efficiency.

Stubbins also got the green light for a new greenhouse this summer, which will increase the growing facility by 30 per cent. Showing it is meeting the needs of the modern supply chain, the company is operating a direct supply model in partnership with grower SGS in Essex, where cucumbers are grown, packed and delivered straight to customers.

On the NPD front, 2015 will see the launch of new varieties including a Midi cucumber, which Stubbins claims could replace the portioned whole cucumber, an orange baby plum tomato, and the pink tomato.

“We are able to look forward with the benefits of a sophisticated infrastructure, award-winning service levels, and the ability to deliver consistently high-quality products from a controlled and integrated supply chain, at a competitive price,” says MD Peter Turone.
