Tesco is believed to have appointed Barney Kay as its new head of agriculture.

Kay is allegedly expected to take on the role previously occupied by Tom Hind, who resigned as agriculture director in May.

It is reported that Kay, currently Moy Park broiler general manager, will begin in his new role in the autumn.

Kay spent two years as NFU North East regional director, and also ran the National Pig Association as general manager.

Hind, who also used to work for the NFU, was the retailer’s first agriculture director, after the job was created in the wake of the 2013 horsemeat scandal.
