Pupils and Billy Branston celebrate reaching the milestone

School pupil number 10,000 has stepped on board a potato giant's promotional tour bus.

The milestone was reached as pupils at St Catherineʼs Primary School in Didsbury in Manchester enjoyed theirvisit from Billy Branstonʼs Amazing Potato Factory, which has been on the road since its launch in September 2014.

Conceived by leading potato supplier, Branston, the initiative has seen adouble decker bus converted into a fully functioning mobile classroom touringprimary schools nationwide.

The company is supporting the Tesco Eat HappyProject, which aims to educate schoolchildren about where their food comes
from.

The vehicle hosts a variety of activities where children can gain hands-onexperience and learn more about how potatoes are grown, as well as whathappens in a real potato factory.

Activities on board the bus are tailored to fit with the Key Stage One and Twoframeworks, with nutrition and healthy eating also playing an important role.

James Truscott, managing director at Branston, said:“When we first discussed the Billy Branston Potato Factory initative, our mainaim was to communicate the message of how great potatoes are and howtheyʼre key for a healthy balanced diet.

'Although we hoped it would be wellreceived by schools nationwide, we would never expected to have had over
10,000 children on board within 15 months of its initial launch.

'This is a hugeachievement for both Branston and the Tesco Eat Happy Project, and we arethrilled to have reached such an exciting milestone.”
