Kettle Produce harvesting manager David Cowan has raised over £2,000 for a children’s hospice charity after running an ultra marathon across the Sahara desert.

Cowan completed the grueling 156-mile Marathon Des Sables 2017, which takes seven days, coming 258th out of 1,165 athletes.

In the process he raised £2,445 for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), smashing his initial Just Giving target of £900.

“I set off with a positive approach to the challenge, knowing that it was possible for me to power walk each daily distance within the allocated cut off times,” Cowan told local paper the Courier.

“However, even with this steady approach, I struggled with blisters and painful feet. It is such a deserving cause and every penny will be put to good use.”

CHAS provides the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people who have life-shortening conditions with no known cure.
