The Land Settlement Association has launched a scheme aimed at developing future leaders of the commercial horticulture industry.
The organisation’s Fellowship Scheme aims to assist developing professionals in the industry to become more engaged with its strategic leadership.
Throughout the initiative the fellows will increase their understanding of the role played by trade bodies and their associated committees in the development of industry strategies and communications with government.
In addition, it will help to increase their knowledge of current research, as well as their ability to evaluate the possible impact this will have on the industry.
There will be communications between those on the scheme and a wide range of contacts in other businesses, trade bodies and research organisations.
Managing agent for the LSA Charitable Trust Fellowship Scheme, Coral Russell, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for up-and-coming executives in the horticulture industry to widen their perspective, make useful contacts, and equip themselves for a future role in leadership of the industry.
“These are exciting and challenges times for horticulture and I would urge anyone who wants to develop their career to apply to join the scheme.”
A maximum of six fellows a year will be accepted for a two-year programme of activity put together by supporting companies. It will include an array of industry events that the fellows can choose to attend.
Each will be granted a bursary of £3,000, which they can draw down on to access the scheme's activities
The project is being supported by the National Farmers Union, British Growers Association, The Horticultural Trades Association, the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB).
Applications for the Fellowship will open on the 2 July and close on 17 August, with bursaries available subject to the approval of the management group.
