FPJ has always been in the vanguard of business publishing in Britain: it was the first trade magazine in the UK to adopt desktop publishing in the 1980s, it provided the first daily fresh produce news alerts in the noughties, and FPJ’s print edition has refreshed every few years since it launched as the Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Trades Journal in 1895, almost 125 years ago.

From the New Year we’re taking the next evolutionary leap forward to provide you with the very best reading experience. A brand new FPJ mobile app will deliver the pick of daily news, analysis, opinion and multimedia direct to your smartphone. It is built by the same expert developers behind the mobile apps of top media brands such as The Economist, Evening Standard, The Sun, Motorsport, Which? as well as the best Condé Nast magazines such as GQ.

FPJ’s new mobile app launches in January 2020 and is available to existing subscribers at no extra charge.

At the same time, we are evolving how we present our FPJ print edition, making it even more relevant to today’s fresh produce businesses. Bigger, better issues will now be posted to subscribers 10 times through the year. These new FPJ special issues feature more in-depth category reports, better market data, new big interviews, more special features, in-depth company profiles, and much more. We kick off with the Fruit Logistica special, which subscribers will get at the end of January 2020.

And for advertisers, in addition to existing positions in print and on our website, there are exciting new opportunities to showcase your product or service via the new smartphone app. FPJ advertising manager Gülay Cetin is going to be speaking to our top advertisers to talk them through all the available options.

FPJ continues to be edited by the best writers and editors in the fresh produce business. FPJ’s new print editions will be edited by Fred Searle, while content for the website and new mobile app will be edited by Ed Leahy. Fred and Ed are supported by Fruitnet’s big team of expert journalists in the UK and around the world, including managing editor Maura Maxwell, editorial director Europe Mike Knowles, Eurofruit deputy editor Carl Collen, news editor Tom Joyce and former FPJ writer Luisa Cheshire. At the same time, FPJ’s long-serving editor Michael Barker is taking on a new role as contributing editor, writing regularly for FPJ and taking part at FPJ Live and other new events planned for 2020.

It’s 124 years since the first issue of the FPJ appeared in Covent Garden and these are exciting, positive changes for the FPJ at the start of 2020. As always, we welcome your feedback on the new format and will be in touch with all the details of how to access the new app. And in the meantime, please enjoy this week’s issue of FPJ, and look out for the new FPJ Big 50 Companies 2020 report, on your deskson Friday 13 December.
