Brings total certified Thai testing sites to ten ahead of peak durian season
China has certified an additional seven laboratories in Thailand to check for Basic Yellow 2 (BY2) dye, according to reporting by the Bangkok Post.
Agriculture minister Narumon Pinyosinwat said Thailand’s Agriculture Department had sought approval for the additional labs so it could expand its BY2 and cadmium testing capacity ahead of peak durian season.
Thai news publication The Nation said China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) approved all seven proposed Thai laboratories including five new sites and two previously qualified ones following negotiations held on 10 April.
The latest approved labs bring Thailand’s total certified BY2 testing sites up to ten.
“With China’s approval, Thailand now has a total of ten laboratories authorised to conduct BY2 testing. This capacity is expected to be sufficient to handle the high volume of durian exports anticipated in late April and May,” said Narumon.
The labs officially opened to BY2 and cadmium testing on 14 April.
