The shipment of 6.75 tonnes of fresh blueberries marks the second consecutive year that Hortifrut has used Peru’s Port of Chancay as its gateway to Asia, reinforcing its commitment to delivering fresher fruit to high-value markets
Hortifrut has officially launched its 2025/26 season with the shipment of the first container of blueberries from Peru to the Asian market.
The shipment, which departed from the Port of Chancay bound for Shanghai, marks ”a new step in the company’s global strategy to continue strengthening its ability to meet the demands of high-value markets like China,” it said.
According to the fresh berry producer-marketer, which is headquartered in Santiago, the container carries 6.75 tonnes of fresh blueberries and is expected to arrive on 30 July.
Thanks to the new route, transit time is reduced from 32 to 25 days, Hortifrut said, allowing for fresher, firmer, and more consistent fruit upon arrival.
“Shorter transit times allow us to deliver fresher, firmer, and tastier fruit to China, resulting in a better experience for the end consumer,” said Bobby Yavary, chief executive APAC of Hortifrut.
”This kind of progress reinforces our commitment to quality and to meeting the expectations of the Asian market.”
It marks the second consecutive year that Hortifrut has used the Port of Chancay as its exit point to Asia, which the company said underscores its commitment to more efficient and innovative logistics solutions.
“This first shipment reflects the serious and consistent work we’ve been doing in Peru, combining innovation, sustainability, and dedication at every stage of the process,” said Fernando Méndez, general manager for the Southern Cone at Hortifrut.
”It’s a clear example of Hortifrut’s commitment to building an industry that looks to the future with ambition and responsibility.”
Hortifrut said the milestone adds to its ongoing efforts to grow with a long-term vision, connecting high-value markets with responsibly grown, high-quality fruit.
In May, the company was certified as a global B Corp, ”reaffirming its commitment to a business model that is sustainable, innovative, and inclusive”.
