Maersk Line

Soren Skou, the chief executive office of Danish shipping company Maersk, has stated that their intra-Asia subsidiary MCC Transport provided a model for the main company to adhere to during the global economic downturn.

“MCC is set up differently to Maersk with a low cost structure,” Skou told SeaShip News. “We are copying that cost model into Maersk.”

Nevertheless, Skou has affirmed that MCC Transport will not be absorbed into the main Maersk Line. The company will instead continue to operate independently.

“The MCC brand will continue,” Skou said to SeaShip News. “Sometimes it pays to have separate brands in different markets.”

Maersk’s intra-Asia subsidiary officially began operations in 1993, when the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group purchased EACTransport Agencies and renamed it MCC Transport in Singapore.

Still headquartered in Singapore, the company currently operates an estimated 60 ships and generated sales of approximately US$1bn last year.
