The festival was held on 6-8 February at Gandaria City Mall in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, and showcased the global competitiveness of Nonsan’s agricultural products, opening new pathways for long-term export growth. It also provided opportunities for knowledge exchange between the two agricultural sectors of both countries, including the implementation of cold chain systems and quality improvement.

Jakarta deputy governor Rano Karno attended the opening ceremony and said the enthusiasm for the festival was high.

“This festival fosters an exchange of cultures and ideas that enriches the relationship between the two cities. Jakarta can learn much from Nonsan, particularly in modern agricultural management and crop distribution systems. This aligns with efforts to improve food quality and security in Jakarta,” explained Karno.

He also hoped that the collaboration between Jakarta and Nonsan City would have a long-term impact in encouraging the development of the agricultural sector, particularly urban farming in Jakarta.

“We have strong reasons to continue our involvement in this event. We want to maintain and strengthen our collaboration with Nonsan City. This festival is an effective platform for building closer and more sustainable relationships,” he said.

According to a report from The Korea Post, around 25 tonnes of Nonsan strawberries prepared for on-site sales were completely sold out.  Additionally, around 41 tonnes of strawberries are expected to be distributed under advance contracts, with more than 16 tonnes entering the wider Indonesian market.

Baek Seong-hyun, mayor of Nonsan, said the event provided an important opportunity to promote the city’s local agricultural products in overseas markets, not only strawberries but also pears, grapes, and other premium agricultural products displayed.

“We will continue expanding our global distribution networks and focus on generating sustainable export results,” he said. ”Our goal is to make Nonsan strawberries a benchmark in the global premium fruit market.”
