Government to improve export code process as season ramps up
Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has announced plans to simplify code-issuing procedures for production areas and packhouses as part of efforts to ease export pathways.

According to a report from Vietnam News, the changes will allow commune-level authorities to perform certification where official information is unavailable.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyễn Hoàng Hiệp said the government would issue a resolution to immediately address obstacles for the durian industry.
The resolution would reduce compliance costs for farmers and businesses, simplify administrative procedures and shift from a pre-inspection to a post-inspection system while maintaining traceability and meeting import market requirements.
Among the issues to be addressed is the current requirement that planting areas cover at least 10ha, as many production areas are too small to qualify. The ministry also identified the need to simplify application procedures by reducing documentation and shortening processing times.
Hiệp added that the reforms are intended not only to facilitate exports, but also to strengthen production management, traceability and food safety for both domestic and overseas markets.
The changes come as Vietnam hosted the second Asia Durian Conference and Vietnam–China Durian Supply and Demand Matching event in HCM on 14 July.
The event was focused on strengthening supply chain cooperation with China, and brought together around 500 participants including more than 100 Chinese companies, as well as government officials, agricultural experts and businesses
Trần Ngọc Liêm, director of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry – HCM City Branch, said durian had emerged as one of the biggest success stories of Vietnamese agriculture in recent years but competition was growing.
“In this context, shifting from competing on volume and price to competing on quality, standards and branding is no longer a choice but a necessity for the sustainable development of Vietnam’s durian industry,” he said.
