Ciopora conference

Intellectual property professionals, plant breeders, legal experts, horticultural leaders, and industry decision-makers will gather at the NH Ventas in Madrid on 26 September for the conference of the International Association of Breeders of Asexually Reproduced Horticultural Varieties (Ciopora).

Under the theme ‘Shaping the future of IP for plant breeders: From challenges towards opportunities’, the full-day event will feature panels, global perspectives, and engaging debates on the most pressing issues facing plant variety protection and the broader IP landscape.

“We are excited to come together to discuss the key issues facing plant breeders and the horticultural industry,” said Dr Edgar Krieger, Ciopora’s secretary general. “This conference will not only examine the current challenges but also explore how we can create opportunities that foster innovation in plant breeding.”

The programme addresses pivotal issues for plant innovation including insights into new genomic techniques (NGTs), interactions between plant breeders’ rights and other intellectual property rights, as well as a look into the future of UPOV, and the trends and projections in the next decade of the horticultural industry.

Ciopora said the full-day event offers a unique platform to understand the intricacies of the horticultural industry, navigate its challenges, and seize the opportunities it presents, as well as excellent networking opportunities, beginning with the Ciopora networking dinner on 25 September at the Rhudo Restaurant Madrid.
