Lidl Netherlands is encouraging young people to eat better and exercise more with a flurry of promotions, after being named as Official Fresh Food Partner of the country’s Olympic squad, TeamNL.

The partnership’s official launch takes place in February during the upcoming Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, where Lidl will provide all TeamNL athletes and visitors to the TeamNL House with free fresh fruit and smoothies.

The partners will also work on other projects in future to promote healthier, more active lifestyles.

Speed skater Femke Kok is the face of the partnership. As a TeamNL athlete and Lidl ambassador, she will play a central role in Lidl’s activities, including at the TeamNL House and in national campaigns.

“I’m pleased that Lidl is committed to healthy eating in sports,” she said. “Healthy eating is essential to my daily routine, and fresh fruit plays a key role in that. Lidl makes healthy eating affordable and accessible for everyone, and I’m happy to support that.”

Lidl is also sponsoring TeamNL Moves, a national sports competition for secondary schools in which thousands of students participate.

Baukje ter Huurne, CMO of Dutch Olympic and sporting group NOC* NSF, commented: “The goal of TeamNL and NOC*NSF, to inspire this young target group through sports, aligns seamlessly with Lidl’s mission to make healthy food accessible. We share the ambition to contribute to a healthier Netherlands. I look forward to a successful collaboration.”

Remy Legue, Head of Brand Lidl Netherlands: “Top athletes show what you can achieve with exercise, discipline, and a healthy diet. Together with TeamNL, we strive for a healthy and affordable lifestyle for everyone. The Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina are a great opportunity to launch our partnership as the Official Fresh Food Partner of TeamNL.”
