Rijk Zwaan

Dutch seed specialists Rijk Zwaan has expanded its business into Egypt following the official opening of its Cairo sales office and demonstration field on 12 January.

Rijk Zwaan Egypt will be managed by Abdel Hamid Meshref and Mohey Meshref, who have been working with the company for the past ten years.

The new arm will have 18 employees and a modern breeding station that will benefit not only Egyptian horticulture, but also neighbouring countries in the region.

Company owner Ben Tax said opening its Egyptian subsidiary had fulfilled a large goal for the firm.

"Egypt is a very important country in this part of the world, and Abdel Hamid and Mohey have given us the confidence that we can be successful here," he said.

"Moreover, thanks to the long collaboration, we are sure that the employees of Rijk Zwaan Egypt fit in very well with our company."

Representatives from the Dutch Embassy in Egypt and a contingent from the Egyptian Ministry for Agriculture attended the opening.
