Aldi crowned best supermarket

Aldi was crowned the best supermarket in British shoppers by the consumer watchdog Which? this week.

The retailer beat both fellow discounter Lidl and upmarket Waitrose to the title at the Which? consumer champion awards in London on Tuesday.

The budget chain, founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht, sells pineapples for 49p, Danish blue cheese for 99p and a selection of wines for £2.99.

Aldi has 403 stores and three per cent of the UK grocery market.
