Aldi is to take on 4,000 new staff

Aldi has unveiled its largest-ever recruitment drive with 4,000 jobs in stores and distribution centres to match its expansion plans and rising sales.

The discounter said it received 900,000 new shoppers in the last year and requires more staff to help achieve its growth plans.

It comes as Tesco announced it will make over 1,000 redundancies as part of a cost-cutting strategy, with job losses understood to be across middle management and director level.

Aldi CEO Matthew Barnes said: “The success of Aldi in the UK is due to the hard work and commitment of our employees, and they are crucial to our future expansion plans.

“Our approach is to recruit the best people in retail and invest in their long-term career development to ensure they operate in an environment where they feel engaged, motivated and challenged.”

Aldi currently has over 700 stores across the UK and said it is on course to open 1,000 stores by 2022.

Barnes added: “We need more high-performing individuals to help us achieve our growth plans. In return we offer market-leading pay and benefits and career development opportunities that are unrivalled in the supermarket sector.'
