An apple pack developed for Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference range by Amcor Flexibles is a winner at the UK Packaging Awards.
The pack won the top prize for flexible packaging on 16 November while the manufacturer’s netting and film potato pack for Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference was highly commended.
Graham Bonus, Sainsbury’s account manager at Amcor Flexibles Europe said: “At Amcor Flexibles, we love challenges and stretching ourselves to continually delight our customers. This is exactly what happened with Sainsbury's. They challenged us to develop an innovative packaging format for their fresh produce that would withstand the existing distribution and supply chain processes, and at the same time enhance consumers’ experience.”
Sainsbury’s said that creating a greengrocer look and feel was part of the brief for Amcor. “The idea with this wicketed bag was removing what some consumers see as an over-packaged feel in fresh produce,” a spokesperson for the retailer said. “Judges were impressed at how the bag allowed consumers to see, touch and smell the quality of Sainsbury’s fresh produce offering.”
