Berry Gardens’ fruit contributed to a gold-medal win at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show for the Championing British garden created by Waitrose and the NFU. The display featured a range of Berry Gardens produce including Elsanta strawberries, Driscoll Jubilee strawberries, and Driscoll Maravilla raspberries.

The garden designed by award-winning florist, Penny Riley, celebrated the best British seasonal fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, salads and herbs as well as other plants by British growers. The stand has won an astonishing 15 consecutive gold medals.

Dr Chris Hartfield from the NFU said: “Chelsea Flower Show is an ideal opportunity to showcase the best of British produce on a world stage and we are delighted that the RHS judges have once again awarded us a gold medal.”

The strawberries and raspberries from Berry Gardens which were a prominent part of the display were provided by one of the co-operative’s growers, Hugh Lowe Farms based in Mereworth, Kent.

The early onset of good weather has produced a bumper crop of exceptionally tasty strawberries and raspberries. Berry Gardens’ growers have also benefited from its support and technical expertise in developing berry and cherry varieties to bring the best possible quality to UK grown produce.

“There is a lot of hard work and dedication from our growers and seeing it rewarded by the judges at one of the leading events in the horticultural calendar is recognition of that work and high praise indeed,” said Paul Kelsey, chairman of Berry Gardens Ltd.
