Bulgaria is hoping to win back a warm European reception for its produce after struggling to transform its industry in recent years.

“We are back on the European markets”, Tanja Betscheva of the association of Bulgarian producer markets said at Fruit Logistica. “Many permanent crops have been replanted and are now yielding good harvests. Tomato, cucumber, berry, plum and cherry production is now booming.”

With 240 days of sunshine per year, Bulgaria has ideal conditions for such products and some businesses have vegetable production areas as large as 1,000 hectares.
