Total Berry technical Director Rupert Carter has switched to the newly created role of ethical and sustainability director at Total Worldfresh.
The appointment aims to reinforce the business's commitment tosustainability and welfare practices both internally and externally withits grower base, customers and clients, according to the company.
Initially, Carter will be responsible for the implementation of anethical strategy across Worldfresh's company portfolio that includesTotal Berry, Total Cherry, Total Fruit and Total Exotics.
The primary focus is on improving the environmental footprintacross the entire supply chain by targeting areas such as waste andwater reduction.
Carter has already begun working on overseas ethical projects and willlook to engage other countries and stakeholders in the coming months. Using industry recognised initiatives and frameworks, he will overseethat actions and improvements are delivering against the ethical basecode and social charters.
Carter said: “I am excited to begin working on this. The role has greatscope to develop, drive and deliver a group strategy through improvementtechniques and facilitation. It is hoped this will result in substantialand demonstrable environmental and ethical efficiencies whilebenefiting the cost-reduction process.”
