Herb company Langmead Produce saw more than 10 per cent growth last year

Ex-VHB managing director Paul Cooper has joined herb supplier Langmead Farms in a business development role.

Cooper, who started at the Chichester-based company last Monday, will develop the cut and potted herbs side of the business in both Spain and the UK.

Chief executive Ian Summerfield said the appointment is part of a wider move to pull together the company across Europe.

He said: “The herb market is fantastic at the moment. Last year we saw more than 10 per cent growth.”

Summerfield said recent independent herb market research highlighted the potential in the sector.

“Herb shoppers have the largest shopping baskets because they cook from scratch. So they also buy more fresh produce. Herb penetration is still only at 25 per cent so there is a huge opportunity.”
