A new strawberry variety has been developed by the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center at the University of Florida.
The Winterstar is a hardy, early blossoming berry that is a cross between the Florida Radiance and Earlibrite varieties.
“It’s gone through enough testing that it’s a done deal,” the centre’s assistant professor Vance Whitaker told the Tampa Bay Times.
It is hoped it will repeat the success the Strawberry Festival variety has earned since 2000.
