Eating fruit and vegetables every day could halve the risk of miscarriage, according to new research.

The study of 7000 pregnant women by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine showed that expectant mothers who included fruit and vegetables regularly in their diet were 46 per cent less likely to miscarry.

But the study did not take into consideration the number of portions that should be eaten.

The researchers looked for links between diet, lifestyle and miscarriage.

The findings showed that eating dairy products daily cut the likelihood of miscarriage by a quarter and twice-weekly meals of white meat or fish reduced the risk by around 15 percent.
