Italian kiwifruit production is expected to fall 13 per cent to 310,000 tonnes in 2001/02, as a result of poor weather. This is turn is likely to impact on exports, which are forecast at 250,000t, as against 285,000t and 260,000t for the two years before. This is significant since 80 per cent of total output is destined for markets overseas, with Germany the largest importer followed by Spain, the Netherlands and France (Source: FAS).
