New red variety is being sold in a plastic-free Linerless pack

Kissabel Rouge apples have made their debut in UK stores.
Appearing on 2 December, the variety is known for its vivid red skin, natural red flesh, and berry-like flavour. It comes from more than 20 years of natural breeding by French breeder IFO, and its striking colour and crisp eating quality are said to make it a standout in the fresh-produce aisle.
From a packaging perspective, the launch is being supported by a plastic-free Linerless pack developed and printed by ProPrint Group, working with Adam Burnett at Worldwide Fruit and the Kissabel design team.
The packging is designed to highlight the Kissabel brand, meet the demands of a major UK retailer, and ”support the fruit’s natural and innovative philosophy”, according to ProPrint.
The six-pack Linerless tray-and-lid format, which was adapted from the previously launched four-pack, is also fully recyclable at the kerbside and runs smoothly on high-speed machinery.
Smurfit Kappa supplied the trays to ensure optimum strength and rigidity, while ProPrint’s experience and partnership with Ravenwood Packaging ensured smooth design, print and application on its Nobac 5000L Linerless machine, the company pointed out.
Graham Bonus of ProPrint Group said: “Building on the successful launch of the four-pack apple pack over the summer, we are excited to introduce a new six-pack linerless version of the Pro-Produce pack, in collaboration with Smurfit WestRock.
”The result is a robust, high-quality printed tray and Linerless lid that deliver the customer requirement for an impactful and visually striking brand launch for Kissabel.”
