Lidl scores hat trick as it’s named cheapest UK supermarket for third time in a row
Lidl has been named cheapest supermarket in The Grocer’s ‘Super Grocer 33’ for the third time in a row – beating six major retailers, including Aldi.
The index, which compares the price of 33 everyday grocery items across the UK’s seven major supermarkets, found Lidl to be £15.44 cheaper than Morrisons, and £27.88 cheaper than the most expensive retailer.
As part of the monthly analysis, The Grocer compares prices of items on shopping lists across the nation, from fresh produce such as milk and grapes, to deodorant, and branded items including Cadbury Fruit & Nut and Hovis bread.
Lidl offered the lowest price for 27 products, of which they were exclusively cheapest for asparagus tips, Cadbury Fruit & Nut, feta, honeydew melon, and tomato purée.

The index found Lidl to be 86p cheaper than Aldi, £9.80 less than Asda, £11.21 cheaper than Sainsbury’s and £11.75 less than Tesco.
Lidl offered the lowest price for 27 products – five were cheaper than other supermarkets, while the other 22 were price matched.
Since establishing itself in Great Britain in 1994, Lidl GB has experienced continuous growth and today has over 28,000 employees, over 935 stores and 13 distribution centres in England, Scotland and Wales.
