Bayer CropScience has gained UK approval for its new insecticide Movento, which contains the active substance spirotetramat.

Nathan Whitehouse, product manager for fruit and vegetable crops, told freshinfo: “We plan to launch Movento for use on lettuce and brassicas early in 2010. It will bring a completely new class of chemistry to the control of sucking pests such as aphids and whitefly.”

Bayer is in the process of developing spirotetramat for use on fruit as well, said Whitehouse. “We are spearheading the product for market entry in Europe and are currentlya season away from this in fruit,” he said. “We also have two new fungicides for top fruit in the pipeline.”

The active substance spirotetramat was developed globally thanks to the global crop platform structure that Bayer CropScience has in place. “Fruit and vegetables are a priority marketplace for Bayer and we have a dedicated team for that area,” said Whitehouse.
