Scotherbs, primary school herb project has taken off this year with a staggering 500 schools from across Scotland registering to receive a pack.

The Tesco-supported scheme has been developed by Scotherbs in line with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence and the nation’s Health-Promoting-Schools initiative to give children an opportunity to experiment with culinary herbs.

The pack includes everything schools need to get their own herb garden up and running including seeds and also has provides worksheets, recipes and nutritional information.

Lynne Roxburgh Scottish marketing manager for Tesco said: “We’ve worked closely with Scotherbs for many years and are delighted to help support this project. Children will learn a lot more about food and flavours by combining classroom teaching with hands-on experience of growing and cultivating their own herbs. The Scotherbs primary school project is an excellent example of this.”

The retailer and Scotherbs are also running a competition to find the best recipe using herbs from the schools participating in the project. The winner will feature on an in-store recipe card and the winning school will win £100 of Tesco vouchers to purchase equipment.
