WOW! Micro Leaf is developing a range of living lines to add to its range of micro herbs and salads.

The firm, a joint venture between Humber VHB and Westland Nurseries, is getting feedback on a number of lines.

James Seymour, product manager at WOW! Micro Leaf, told freshinfo: “This is the next step on from salad cress and what we think will be the next big thing.

“Micro lines have better dispersal in a bagged salad than standard product. Manufacturers go for micro product because there is less waste, with no stripping of the leaves or throwing away stalks.”

WOW! Micro Leaf has seen its range double in the two years since it was established. Borage is one of the newest lines, known for its cucumber flavour, while tendril peas have been introduced for their aesthetic quality.

Seymour picked out baby watercress and samphire as two lines to watch over the next 12 months.
