In the US, Dole Fresh Vegetables has issued a voluntary recall of bagged salads products for the second time in the space of a week.

Following on from last week's recall of 1,077 cases of bagged salads due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes, the group has now recalled 2,598 cases of Dole Hearts of Romaine bagged salads because of possible listeria contamination, although no illnesses have been linked to either recall.

According to The Packer, the latest recall involves product with use-by dates of 26 June, with Dole official doubting whether any was left in the stream of commerce at the point of recall.

A new release on the Food and Drug Administration website stated: 'This precautionary recall notification is being issued due to an isolated instance in which a sample of Dole Hearts of Romaine salad yielded a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes in a random sample test conducted by the FDA.

'The salads were distributed in nine U.S. states – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia,' the alert stated.
