Mango exports from Peru in the period between January and April rose by 25.7 per cent to US$165.2m compared with the year-earlier period, according to figures released by Peruvian exporter association Adex.

The US was the biggest market, absorbing US$64.2m of mangoes, followed by the Netherlands (US$48.1m) and the UK (US$11.3m). South Korea was the fastest growing market, with shipments in the first four months of 2014 rising by 1,192 per cent, Adex said.

The bulk of Peru’s production comes from Piura in the north of the country, which produces around three-quarters of total output. This is followed by Lambayeque (15 per cent) and Ancash (10 per cent. Virtually all of Peru’s mango exports (95 per cent) are made up of the Kent variety.
