Asoex 80 years

Agriculture minister Carlos Furche, left with Asoex president Ronald Bown

More than 400 guests attended a ceremony in Santiago this week to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Chilean fruit exporter association Asoex.

Among those present were agriculture minister Carlos Furche, as well as national and international representatives from the public and private sectors.

Furche praised Asoex’s efforts in promoting Chilean produce overseas and opening up new exports markets, while ensuring that products complied with international food safety standards.

“It is hard to imagine the country having such a dynamic agricultural sector without a dynamic fruit industry. It is, without doubt, the motor that has driven the development of the industry as a whole,” Furche said, adding that the close relationship between Asoex and the government would guarantee further progress in health, safety and quality while guaranteeing the rights and obligations of all the players within the industry.

Asoex president Ronald Bown called on those present to continue to search for new markets, new varieties and improvements in the quality and safety of Chilean fruit.

“We are very pleased to be able to celebrate these 80 years in the company of people who have been so important in the growth of the sector and in supporting our actions,” he said.

Bown added that Asoex was finalising a proposal on how to boost productivity and growth within the fruit industry that it would present to the government. The proposal includes strategies on promotions and exports, the opening of new markets, the simplification of trade processes, customs, infrastructure and logistics, water management and jobs and skills training amongst other issues.
