Vietnam is expected to ship 600 tonnes of dragon fruit to the US market this year, a volume 12 times higher than that shipped in 2009.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said 500 tonnes had already been shipped, reported VOV News.

A number of other global markets are receiving Vietnamese dragon fruit; exports to Japan hit 330 tonnes in the first 10 months of the year, and is expected to hit 400 tonnes by the end of December.

South Korea is also set to receive its first shipment of Vietnamese dragon fruit at the end of the year following a visit to production regions by Korean officials in May.
