The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) Market Award winners were announced at the closing dinner of the 2014 WUWM conference in London on 26 September.

Link Management won gold for its renovation of the Hong Kong Tin Shui market, transforming the traditional wet market into a modern market. The€1.5m (US$1.89m) project ran over nine months with limited disruption to market activity, resulting in a high-quality market with excellent hygiene and food safety training for its tenants.

Maryland Food Centre Authority from the US took out silver for its €1m (US$1.26m) maintenance project to the Baltimore wholesale market. Two bronze awards were presented to the Centre Market and Fisheries Organisations in Athens and the Stockholm City for their successful market renovation projects.

Wholesale and retail markets from across the globe were competting for a spot in the annual awards under this year's theme: 'excellence in real-time market renovation.'

The awards were judged by Philip Gottwalls, managing director of ACDS, LCC; Bill McElroy, managing director of Turner & Townsend Consulting; and Michel Escoffier, WUWM honorary member and market consultant.
