Hamburg night worker photo

A series of photographs celebrating the so-called 'night workers' at Hamburg Wholesale Market will be on display this coming weekend as the centre opens its doors to the general public.

The photographic portraits, which are due to be shown under the heading 'Frischhändler' (Fresh Traders), will offer some insight into the lives of those who begin their working day at 1am, handling fresh produce for sale through the city's famous wholesale market.

The exhibition is the brainchild of Andreas Schindler, who heads up leading Hamburg-based import company Pilz Schindler alongside his brother Thomas.

He invited local photographer Carsten Minkwitz to come and document the people working through the small hours of the morning to buy, sell and move a broad range of fresh fruits and vegetables at the centre.

More than 100 workers at the market allowed themselves to be photographed, and their pictures will be on display for several weeks.
