According to the latest forecasts, the 2011/12 Tunisian citrus campaign should be even better than the previous season, according to a report in Le Magazine du Manager.
In 2010/11, a production volume of 258,000 tonnes of citrus was recorded, while this year a volume of 260,000 tonnes is predicted.
Approximately 3,000 tonnes of citrus have already been exported, out of an expected export volume of 25,000 for the entire season, which lasts from November to June.
Another positive for Tunisian exporters is that the production rise is exclusively down to an increase in volumes of Maltese oranges, which are the main export for Tunisian farmers and will see their volumes rise from 118,000 tonnes to 120,000 tonnes this season.
The variety is expected to be launched on a number of different markets in the Gulf this year, including Saudi Arabia.
