Belgian produce on display at Fruit Logistica

Two of the Belgium's major vegetable cooperatives, REO Veiling and Produco Groenteveiling, have opted to merge following several years of close collaboration.

The companies, both of which are based in the region of East Flanders, agreed to bring their two organisations together following a meeting on 27 June attended by Produco president Johny Vanhoutte as well as REO's president Rita Demaré and chief executive Paul Demyttenaere.

According to a press release, Produco will be incorporated into REO's producer-oriented structure, with a view to simplifying the group's structure.

REO is owned by around 3,000 producer shareholders and turns out around 4m cartons of fresh vegetables each year, supplying a significant proportion of the produce sold under Belgium's Flandria and Speciality Street ranges.
