Egerie tomato

French marketer Prince de Bretagne has revealed that its producers are adding another segment to their vine tomato range, offering a new variety dubbed 'égérie’, the French word for 'muse'.

Vine tomatoes are the comfortable leaders of Prince de Bretagne's tomato range, making up over two-thirds of the production volume, and the égérie, available until November, is expected to be a winner.

“égérie vine tomatoes are notable for their flavour, high sugar levels, low acidity and juiciness,” the marketer stated.

Prince de Bretagne advises consumers to enjoy them in salads, as a tomato garnish, and raw or cooked in almost any dish. Meanwhile, the marketer’s website offers numerous recipes developed by celebrity chef Jean Imbert.

The tomatoes are being made available in wooden boxes, with the vines resting on a bed of straw, or in flow-pack trays of six trays per box.

“This differentiated, quality presentation emphasises their position at the top end of the range,” the company said.
