Fedemco carbon calculator

Fedemco, which specilaises in wooden packaging for the fresh produce industry, has launched a new carbon calculator to measure the equivalent volume of carbon emitted during the life cycle of wooden crates used for fresh fruit and vegetables.

The group has worked alongside the Technical Institute of Packaging, Transport and Logistics (ITENE) to come up with the Fedemco2-data concept.

The Life-Cycle Assessment (ACV) methodology is used as a base to calculate the carbon footprint, limiting assessment to the impact category of climate change. This methodology follows two international standards: UNE-EN ISO 14040:2006 and UNE-EN ISO 14044:2006, Fedemco noted.

The carbon footprint is the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases associated with the production of a wooden crate and its raw materials once its life cycle has been assessed.
