Spain’s national postal service has launched a new service for citrus producers in Valencia wishing to sell their products online.

Correos said the service, which will run for the duration of the harvesting season, is designed to help growers open up a new distribution channel by providing them with access to a cost-effective and efficient way of shipping the fruit to their customers.

It allows them to send the citrus at standard weights of 6,11, 16 and 21kg to a delivery point of their choosing.

According to a report in El Economista, a growing number of Valencian farmers are resorting to direct sales through the internet to avoid middlemen and take control of their own sales strategy.

Alongside the new service Correos is offering a service to help sellers set up their own web page and position their products on online marketplaces.
