New data from the Spanish General Customs Directorate has outlined that Spain's fresh fruit and vegetable exports remained steady in volume terms through the opening two months of 2018.

According to the data, published by Fepex, total exports for the two-month period grew 0.6 per cent year-on-year to 2.3m tonnes, although export value dropped 7.3 per cent to €2.9bn.

Vegetables recorded a 'remarkable' growth in export volume of 8.4 per cent to 1.2m tonnes, Fepex noted, while value dropped 13.5 per cent to €1.3bn.

The drop in value was largely due to the adverse weather conditions experienced in early 2017, which reduced vegetable supplies across Europe and pushed up prices for many products, Fepex outlined.

Spain's fresh fruit exports, on the other hand, actually fell 7 per cent in volume to 1m tonnes, while registering a value increase of 0.6 per cent to €1.2bn.
