Agrexco Ettinger avocados

The Organisation of Fruit Growers in Israel has taken the unusual step of urging consumers in the country not to buy avocados.

Yedioth Ahronoth's Mamon financial paper last week reported that overpriced avocados were flooding local markets, even though they are still not in season.

Consumers who recently purchased avocados have complained of tough and sour fruit, sold intentionally before the beginning of the season in order to gain higher prices.

According to Ilan Eshel, director of the Organisation of Fruit Growers, some farmers wishing to market avocados before the start of the season began selling the Etinger variety, a move which he said showed a lack of concern for consumers.
