According to the latest figures from France’s Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Agriculture (APCA), French fruit and vegetable producers experienced a large drop in revenue last year, of 35 per cent and 49 per cent respectively.
In addition, the average income of a self-employed vegetable producer was estimated at just €17,000 per year, at the bottom of the agricultural ladder along with sheep rearing and non-AOC viticulture.
