David Marguleas, senior vice president licensing & corporate development at Sun World International Inc, the California based agribusiness, briefed key table grape importers on the Sugraone variety brand table grape at a meeting in London last month. "Given the importance of the UK marketplace to Sugraone grape producers and marketers, and the questions they've often posed about legitimate sources of Sugraone grapes from various countries," said Marguelas, "we felt it was important to provide some background on this variety, its origins and licensed sources of supply." Sun World owns global personal property rights in the Sugraone grapevine as well as intellectual property rights to its many fruit producing countries. The company grows and/or licenses other qualified producers to grow approximately 6,000 hectares of Sugraone grapes on five continents. Unauthorised Sugraone producers and marketers periodically dist-ribute grapes under unknown variety names such as Festival Seedless, Imperial Seedless and Atlas Seedless.
