The French subsidiary of the Higgins Group is strengthening having expanded its volume and area of operation, using its new facilities in Reims as a base for what is now a pan-European business.

In 2001 the Higgins Group set about an international business development programme, which will see the volume of potatoes handled by the company rise from 350,000tonnes to more than 500,000t annually by 2004.

David Higgins, managing director of the group, said: 'I always believed that there was a major opportunity for us to replicate our UK success throughout mainland Europe, and I have every confidence that Pommies will continue to achieve our European sales targets.' Pommies's move to purpose built premises in Reims earlier this year has allowed testing facilities and administration offices to be brought together to aid future growth.
