CMBI chairman Mena Davidson told the Journal that it is against the two-way merger ahead of a proposed four-way merger, which would also include the Vegetable Board and Flower Board. 'We are appealing the merger as it would be better if there is an amalgamation, to merge all in one go,' he said.

'The other reason is that we are not happy with the decision on who will manage the property of a merged board. Individual sectors should maintain management over their own property.' The 63-year old CMBI is particularly anxious to protect its intellectual property, namely the Jaffa brand. 'We lodged our appeal last week and it will be considered at the end of the month,' said Davidson.
